California cannabis providers, or Medical Cannabis Dispensing Collectives (MCDCs), can use the system to approve and register qualified patients, even when the doctor is unavailable. In addition CannAssist.com helps your MCDC comply with universal heath care policy.

HIPAA, the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, protects an individual’s personal identifiable information (PII), also known as private health information (PHI) from misuse or exposure. HIPAA legistlation define various ways that professionals in the health service industry must guard the integrity of patients PII / PHI. Using CannAssist helps MCDCs enforce patients’ rights guranteed under federal HIPAA Title II regulations.

Specific ways CannAssist helps cannabis providers:

  • Makes new patient registration easier and faster
  • Reduces administrative paperwork and office files
  • Creates a professional reputation for your organization
  • Establishes trust with medical doctors
  • Safeguards PHI and PII
  • Establishes verification records should there be any investigation into HIPAA compliance

How it works:

  1. Participating medical doctors receive numbered CannAssist ID stickers. These stickers are to be affixed to the original medical cannabis recommendation letter by the physician or their staff. Next, the CannAssist ID number must be activated by creating a new patient entry, then the ID is ready for patient use. At this point, the patient may visit any medical cannabis dispensing collective registered with CannAssist.
  2. When a patient arrives at a new dispensary location the patient reception staff will log-in to access the CannAssist system and input the patient’s Cannassist ID number. The system processes the query and only an exact match will result in a Confirmed Verification, otherwise the verification will be denied. Cannabis providers are still responsible for confirming each patient’s identity with a California photo ID.
